Where Footwear Fit Meets Performance

Footwear Fit Education & Practical Fit Assessment for Older Adults
During May and June 2026, Oliverland Consulting conducted four community footwear-fit sessions for older adults in Hong Kong, with approximately 49 participants taking part. The sessions combined footwear-fit education with practical fit assessment, helping participants develop greater awareness of how their footwear corresponds to their feet.

From Education to Practical Observation
The educational sessions introduced basic footwear-fit considerations and encouraged participants to look beyond the labelled shoe size when thinking about fit.
Practical assessments then provided an opportunity to observe the relationship between the participant's foot and footwear. The practical assessments identified a range of fit situations, including footwear that appeared too short, too long or insufficiently wide for the foot.
These observations reinforced an important principle of Footwear Fit Management: shoe size alone does not describe the complete relationship between a foot and a shoe.
Learning from Real-World Footwear Fit
The sessions were not designed as medical examinations or diagnostic assessments. Their purpose was educational: to help participants become more aware of footwear fit and to observe practical fit conditions in a real-world community setting.
For Oliverland Consulting, the activities also provided valuable field experience. They demonstrated how footwear-fit knowledge can be translated into accessible education and practical observation for individuals.
Footwear Fit Management in Practice
Footwear Fit Management aims to support more informed footwear choices by improving understanding of the relationship between the foot, the footwear and the context in which the footwear is used.
The Hong Kong sessions represent one practical application of this approach at the individual and community level: combining education, observation and footwear-fit awareness to help people better understand the footwear they wear.
